Our primary therapeutic techniques
Trauma-Focused
This approach looks at all of the pieces of the human, not just the symptoms; As humans we are complex. We will help you learn, understand, and heal the internalized messages of yourself & the world around you, old patterns, safely address trauma & its triggers, and foster emotional regulation.
Relational
The idea that we are shaped by our social world and relationships, and that having good relationships is essential for our wellbeing and self-esteem. We'll explore how past experiences have shaped you and your patterns of relating to others. It aims to equip you with new and helpful ways of interacting in the present.
Client-Centered
The client takes the lead in the sessions. As the client is the expert in her/his/their own life, we will be beside you in your therapy journey with compassion, understanding, respect, and non-judgement.

Feministic
A way of highlighting societal injustice, gender inequity, and the needs of women and marginalized populations. Together we will work on regaining power, feeling heard, being seen and what it means to take up space in this world.
Research shows that one of the strongest predictors of success in therapy is the relationship between client and clinician.
At Pittsburgh Art Therapy & Counseling, that relationship is at the heart of everything we do.
